Synosia's nepicastat is 'one to watch', according to leading competitive intelligence analysts at Thomson Reuters
Nepicastat, a selective inhibitor of dopamine beta-hydroxylase, has been highlighted as one of the five most promising drugs entering phase II trials. The opinion was published in the April - June 2008 Pharma Matters: The Ones to Watch quarterly report, which reviews latest changes in the pharmaceutical pipeline. The report is based on strategic data and analysis from Thomson Pharma, the world's leading pharmaceutical competitive intelligence solution and part of the Thomson Reuters group.
Nepicastat is being developed by Synosia Therapeutics as a potential treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and a potential treatment for cocaine addiction. Synosia announced in July that funding had been granted by the US Department of Defense for a phase II clinical trials in PTSD. (

Synosia’s major licensing deal with Roche was selected as winner of the BioBusiness Network 2007 Innovative Bio-Partnering Award for Pharma-Biotech partnerships and a finalist at the Scrip Awards Licensing Deal of the Year.
The BioBusiness award recognised the flexible and innovative deal, which included five compounds from Roche, allowing Synosia to launch with the breadth of a clinical-stage pipeline that many companies never achieve. For Roche, the deal provided the potential return of key drug candidates to its portfolio with no additional risk, as well as a potentially large financial return for both companies.
